  • EARTH - A STORY OF MIGRATION

    Northern privations become so severe,
    Inactivity renewing precious energy.
Ancient community lives and remains poor.
    They invest service.
    Draw heavily on their reserves
    Comparatively scarce.

    Continent immense, compact and heavier
    From East to West,
    Change their character,
    Dormant thousands may cluster
    Given the chance,
    Spreading that so disorients substance
    Undetected.

    How quickly the young mature
    Exceptional abundance,
    Population will fall again.
    Wanderer will have much
Five or six years, then falling catastrophically
    Desperate.
    Poor to travel
Will certainly die on the continents
    Further south.

    Take care not to rest
    A distant onslaught
    Expressive, consuming, manufacture.
    Forests, listening intently
    The tiny sounds
    Conveniently roar, beat
    The same drum roll.

    So dense, so tall
    Flowers the summer further north.
    So strongly
    The slightest wind is enough,
    Each animal beds down
    Growl and whimper
    Strange murmuring hubbub
    Sleep, certain, alive.

Dormancy is a spell so severe.
Families are in danger of losing consequence
The very character that enabled them
To survive the accumulation of heavy loads.
    Danger so effective.
Within reach they have been consumed.
    Burning into fireballs,
    Shelter on the other side
    Maintain constant guard.
    Guarding the occupied
    Those living to cope
    Have strategies and structures
    They reach their greatest development,
    In greater abundance.
