ABOUT THE GALLERIES
ILLUSTRATIONS AND SKETCHES
Drawing and exploring image and word are such a joy, it's like a roller coaster and trying to keep up with all the ideas is a real whirlwind of activity. I just love it. I now have a secret stash of picture book stories which I am slowly but surely illustrating - what a wonderful world.
PORTRAITS
Portraiture is something I have always felt drawn to. Every time I start a new portrait I am awed by the beauty and mystery of every aspect of that face, catching the likeness and personality is a thrill.
ROCK SEA AND SKY
Work for a solo exhibition
Light has always driven my work with seascapes figuring strongly and for this exhibition the special memories that Malta holds for me came to the fore. Colour, vivid contrast, mood, an almost other worldliness are what these memories inspired.
LANDSCAPES
A selection of landscapes based on scenes which reflect the Chiltern countryside. A couple of very snowy winters have inspired several snow scenes, all developed from views close to where I live.
WAVES
I have always loved the sea and this selection reflects the emotional impact the sea has had on me, sometimes calming, sometimes terrifying. It is a subject matter I still explore and seek to find different ways of expressing it.
GALLERY 1
Why red horses? It started when I observed how fragile identity and emotional stability can be. I had the privilege of helping a disabled artist and the whole experience made me keenly aware of vulnerability in an individual. The red horse is a symbol of this vulnerability but also of the strength and dignity of the human spirit.
GALLERY 2
A variety of different subjects which I have explored over the years.
SACRED ART
This portrait was commissioned for the canonization of Blessed Jeanne Jugan, which took place on the 11th of October 2009.
It now hangs at St Peter's Residence, Vauxhall, London.
Jeanne Jugan was a remarkable woman who devoted her life to the care of the elderly and infirm. She showed deep compassion for the elderly and from the moment she took in an abandoned elderly lady called Anne Chauvin and looked after her in her own home, the order which was to become known as the Little Sisters of the poor had begun and continued to grow all over the world.
